The Prurient Interest says:

Gay normativity is necessary for gay men to have a community and a shared sense of identity. We are allowed, and we're fully within our rights, to exist both as a “subsection” of queer and to also exist outside of queer altogether. You problematicize “same love,” but it's “same love” that won LGBT rights, which now in most Western countries includes marriage, and in Eastern ones at least the right to not have your skull bashed in the street. Long-term and stable LGBTQ+ rights are not possible without building a kind of “queernormativity” that will exist alongside “cisheteoronormativity.” The queer and the cishet will have to make each other legible to each other or they will always exist in a state of suspended war, which for queers who have less power and fewer numbers, is a really precarious situation.
