Just that my experience, as a child, with “good Catholics,” was that there were a lot of human frailties on exhibit, perhaps more so than in less religious people (I went to high school at a school which was on the campus of a monastery, and a majority of the staff were clergy, and a large number of those were having inappropriate relations with high school students). Some of the self-righteous behavior I saw was claimed to be justified because “I’m closer to God” or some such. Meanwhile, we were being told by adults of the community that these were good men following God.

Dave, I need to think on your first response. Perhaps it could be both. Hmm...

Could you say more about “true grace is rarer than one would think”?

davepolaschek says:

Interesting take, but can’t it be both? By which I mean, karma is there for the cases in which grace doesn’t “solve the problem?”

The other comment I have, having been raised Catholic, is that true grace is rarer than one would like, alas.
