Introducing Write.as Memberships

@ernestortizwritesnow I do have that on my mind with everything we're building here, just in case. So most of that plan involves all the built-up documentation I've written, access to all our code, etc. Then if that scenario ever came up, it would involve finding the right party to take everything over. And barring anything extreme, we'd never do something like this without a ton of communication and notice.

But of course I don't anticipate having to hand over the reins, and thankfully, I have a lot of personal flexibility that gives me the ability to take mental health time and so on when I need it, as I've done at different points over the years.

Otherwise from a user / customer perspective, the safety net you always have here is WriteFreely, the open source platform behind Write.as that anyone can host themselves (or find hosting with another company).

So I hope between that and me running this as transparently as possible, people don't have to worry about us suddenly going away one day — it's really the whole idea I wanted for this company.

Hello Matt. Maybe you may have written about this somewhere. Do you have a long term plan in place in case you may have to step down and let someone else take the reins? God forbid something happens but your mental health has to come first.

Totally fair question. I did at times lose motivation here, for a variety of reasons, including just the slog of building the same thing for so long. I started doing more things that kept me offline, etc. But Write.as has always been my main concern / job / business / project — I never stopped maintaining it, and it continues to evolve, even if it's quiet and sometimes slow.

As for progress made lately, we've developed multi-user blogging, updated our Web Monetization support, improved article support in the fediverse while working with other platforms, and most recently added Markdown previews, to name a few. And behind everything, WriteFreely continues to develop.

I know you said you stopped using Write.as, but is there any kind of progress you'd like to see? And did you report that bug via email? I'm fixing small lingering bugs / quality-of-life issues this very week. But I was only able to find a message that involved a custom theme.

question: has… well, any development progress been made recently? i have to admit, i stopped using Write.as some time ago when i realized that a simple bug with the editor i had reported six months before then was still there. i almost forgot i email-subscribed to this blog before the last couple posts because news just hasn’t existed.

is there any life left on this project? i remember reading years ago on Matt’s blog that he was struggling to stay motivated(?) with Write.as, and i do have to say that it’s been showing worse than ever.

this is coming from someone who still has an active ‘Membership’, FWIW.
